I think the main thing that makes it a good checkered pet is that the checks are reasonably big, which makes it look less cluttered.

I'm also in the club for imagining before I clicked on this thread something with purple/blue on it.

That said, I like its simplicity; I think if purple or blue were added, it might not be done right, and then we would all mourn for it. Or something.

What I don't like is that the main body doesn't seem to be redrawn between any of the poses except defended and hit.
