Kart Rider?

Anyone ever played Kart Rider? It's a new game by Nexon, makers of Maple Story.

It's a racing game rather like Mario Kart really. You race other people and there are two modes, item and speed. I've only played item mode but it's fun.

The game is still in Beta and there are very few maps, but it's entertaining and item mode is fun.

Screenies cause everyone likes screenies. All two of the ones I have anyway.
Click. The faces in the game are rather creepy, as are the characters themselves. Here's the angry face.
Click. I was racing against Kenny tonight and he's much better at this game then I am. BUT I still beat him a handful of times and here's proof!

You can get more karts and colors but I haven't played around with it enough to figure out how. If anyone joins, my name is Jeysca there and for those of you who know Kenny from Maple, his name is Rilf if you wanted to find him.

Edit: Okay, I played it a while... and I think I've gotten used to it. But is there a way to switch items when you have two of them? I'm too lazy to go searching. (Edit 2: I looked on the forums. It's a future cash shop item? That's... incredibly stupid.)

Anyway, my name there is Malicus. ...and is it just me, or do the characters remind anyone else of Bomberman?

I might try playing with people here tomorrow, if I'm not busy MMORPGing or doing stuff on Subeta. =P

Yeah, we'll have to make a race with other NC people/people we know. You can make the rooms have anywhere from 2-8 people and also pw protect them so random people can't enter.

Okay, I have found that there are two main things that really annoy me about this game.

1) I greatly dislike that there is no sort of chat history anywhere. Once what someone has said has disappeared, it's gone for good. And there's so little space to actually type what you want to say. I don't really miss there being chat in the main lobbies, though, since such chat in these sorts of games generally tends to suck.

2) Why on EARTH did they decide that the winner of the race gets control of the room? That has to be one of the stupidest online game design decisions ever. (I'd like to say THE stupidest, but I know someone will easily find something to top this.)

All in all, it's a very... impersonal game. They may as well have given you numbers instead of names and instead of having rooms just randomly matched you up with people near your skill level. The only thing you'd select is the type of race you wanted to play.

Yeah, I have to agree with you Arktus. Its still in Beta though so hopefully once it's officially released there will be more design choices and more personalization. I don't expect it to be nearly as indepth as Maple Story, but you know, more then two different chars and four colors would be nice.

And the chat thing annoys me as well. I was complaining to Kenny about it, and this was after I figured out how to talk. I also wish you could message people even if you aren't in a room with them, like a whisper or something. I had the hardest time trying to figure out the game last night and I couldn't really ask anyone what to do. And there needs to be a chat history. You'd think that'd be like common sense 0_o

The need to add more weapons that allow the player in front to actually stay in front. More throw-behind-you type weapons to keep those behind you from catching up. There is nothing to stop those behind you from bombing you then everyone zipping past except a banana peel almost no one hits cause its so small and a fog cloud which I'm not entirely sure what it does.

But flaws asides, it's still a fun game to play for a little while. And unlike Mario Kart, this is free

I'm pretty sure that the ONLY thing the fog cloud does is obscure your vision, so unless you think people need to be able to see in that exact spot... it's not very useful.

Edit: I have discovered something. You don't need to use the arrow keys (which some keyboards have problems with combinations of) to steer. Instead, you can use W to accelerate, S to brake/reverse, A to turn left, and D to turn right. These keys should be familiar to anybody who plays first-person shooter games on the PC. When you're using this setup, you could use the ctrl and shift keys on the other side of the keyboard for drift/fire, or you could use the / key to drift and . (period/full stop/what have you) to fire.

Addicting. Not as fun as Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing or Kirby Air Ride or... whatever, but still. Fun. I want them to come out with more customization stuff. Not as much characters right now... Although that should come later, with at least a slight reference to Maple Story somehow. We need those accesories that aren't out yet. I'm getting tired of being #1 all the time. How about more colours? A nice bright red like you can get in Teams would be nice. I want more plates besides thumbs up and wavey ones. I want one with a mushroom on it. I want some items you can throw in front or behind you, like Shells in Mario Kart. Okay, that's all my "critique" for now.

Edit: According to the site, they're IP blocking Europeans. Sorry, people who can't get on anymore...

Ew... regional IP blocks are so stupid, especially considering that the game is only in freaking BETA. Ugh. I don't think the folks at Nexon understand the whole "playing games with your friends over the internet, even if they're not from the same country" thing very well.

That aside... I played some more tonight. I managed to be part of the first perfect win I've seen in a team item match (1st through 4th place being filled all by the same team -- I was in 1st in this case), and I've also been accused of being a hacker after winning a few single item matches in a row, so I guess that says something about my skill, or maybe just my luck.
