www.LunaPets.com

Now in beta!
The site is just under 2 weeks old. There will be at least 5 special colors for each pet, and 20 - 30 pets in total. We currently only have 160 items, but are expecting around 750 - 1000 by the middle of next year. The origonal features are not yet complete, as the site is still in beta, however there are many in store for it. We are expecting around 100,000 users by this time next year. There are 10 flash games in developmenet, and 6 PHP games. There are currently 8 places to expore being drawn, as well as a much better world map. There will also be several more shop keepers drawn, and main shops added. There are currently about 15 avatars, but we have over 100 ordered. As of now the site only has a $2000 budget, but more will be added to the budget as LunaPets grows.

Oh, the mental images. They include but are not limited to: myself sucker-punching virtual pet; myself shouting at a virtual pet, which runs to its room crying and closes the door; and Greek-style wrestling. Not that it's hard to make me think of Greek-style wrestling.

Sorry, have we not been playing the same virtual pet sites?

What's our policy on blatant adspam? Points for being in the right forum, at least, but this reads like a bad press release.

You know, TFB, I'm pretty sure this is just a way of saying we've been playing the wrong pet sites this entire time! I mean, obviously if we hadn't been, we'd realize we were missing out on something wonderful!

You know what, I'm going to be nice and try this site out. I'm sure you guys have great potential but...try a better, less smug persuasion phrase for now. M'kay?

I looked around. It's very much in its infancy. There's one game, which is based on Breakout; I love Breakout but this game either doesn't offer interesting layouts or drops, or doesn't offer them until you get to a higher level than I reached, so it's not terribly enthralling. Payout seems to be on the order of 1/20 -- I scored 5100 or so points and got 250 or so LP. It is a Flash game. The only other way to make money right now is restocking. At a glance that doesn't seem very promising, but I don't believe I saw an actual stock, so I'm not qualified to say.

The art is very pretty, pet and item art both. The pets have a distinctive style that I quite like. One of them, the Aruna, shares a name with the act of sex as performed by the hermaphroditic post-human jerks in Storm Constantine's excrable Wraeththu novels, but I don't think that's a deliberate reference. God, I hope not. Those books are so bad. ... where was I?

The site is full of 404s. It's possible some stuff just doesn't work in Opera, but I suspect the site is actually just full of 404s. I am not impressed with the art for the map, nor any of the text rollovers.

I have not located any sort of pet color database (though I haven't looked very hard); the site is so young there may still only be the basic colors, of which there seem to be three, red, blue and green. It may not even be safe at this point to assume that there will eventually be more colors than those.

Aruna is also a notable in Hindu mythology; he drives Surya's sun-chariot. I'm pretty sure that predates any crappy book. ^_~ (And noooo, I don't feel compelled to defend the name partially because I own the pet Surya on Subeta, whose Thriff is named Aruna....)

Oh, that's right. I thought I knew the word from somewhere else too, but Constantine recently came up on another forum I ffrequent and I've had her on the brain. I believe it literally means something like 'red'.

I agree, the pets are actually quite nice, but there aren't enough of them. Mr.Black's description is more than adequate. As it is right now, there's not even enough material to give it a failing grade. It's incomplete at best.

Would it be terribly naughty of me to make my own crappy pet site and spam random forums?

The reason i was a bit sarcastic is I think it's a little.. well, silly to try and sell your petsite based on the fact that it is 'original', then claim the things that make it original are exploring the land, making a shop, and battling with your pet - which can't be done on any other site.

If you're trying to sell something, at least make your 'original' ideas seem more... original.

xD I signed up. I went to the explore page and every single place to visit was 'Page does not Exist' :/ I like the pets though very original and some of the item artwork is fantastic, although it doesn't match the style of some of the pets.

^_^ If I ever get bored and this site turns out alright, at least I have the names hedwig and scabbers.

I like the artwork, but I really think you should develope the site more, have links that work and more things to do before advertising. :/

Now that you mention it, it is extraordinarily tempting for me to register some names there that are highly sought after by the target demographic, like Legolas. Though Legolas is so sought-after it's probably taken already.
