Because nothing I can say would make it either better or stranger.

Re: [Harry Potter] Offered Without Comment
I must say it pleases me that she seems to find the fanfic amusing, as opposed to (say) the creators of DS9 (or possibly Viacom, hard to say) who rumor has it were so freaked out by Garak/Bashir slash that they stopped showing scenes of the two characters together.
But I'd actually prefer NOT to imagine the slash... Hmm, there's Dumbledore/Harry and Dumbldore/Snape, for starters. And that's just the most obvious ones.
Ah, who am I kidding, I'm sure there are plenty of those already.

Hm.
All I can say is that she no longer has any excuse to not admit to Remus's and Sirius's relationship. Because it's canon. I swear.
Interesting, though.

They weren't freaked out by the slash, or not just by the slash -- they were freaked out by the fact that Robinson actually played Garak as interested in Bashir, and told him to cut it out.Wingsrising wrote:I must say it pleases me that she seems to find the fanfic amusing, as opposed to (say) the creators of DS9 (or possibly Viacom, hard to say) who rumor has it were so freaked out by Garak/Bashir slash that they stopped showing scenes of the two characters together.
Which is a shame, because we're never going to have another Star Trek show as good as DS9, and when we finally get some proper queer Star Trek characters (not merely subtext and the occasional intolerably hot Dax moment) I want them to be in a show that good.
Edit: I'm surprised it's Dumbledore who's gay and not Lupin, when Lupin is so obviously -- whether she intended him to be not -- a metaphor for a gay, possibly HIV-positive teacher. Considered from an activist perspective, though, it's better that it be Dumbledore.

Hmm. I know they told him to stop saying so at cons, at any rate.Twofold Black wrote:They weren't freaked out by the slash, or not just by the slash -- they were freaked out by the fact that Robinson actually played Garak as interested in Bashir, and told him to cut it out.Wingsrising wrote:I must say it pleases me that she seems to find the fanfic amusing, as opposed to (say) the creators of DS9 (or possibly Viacom, hard to say) who rumor has it were so freaked out by Garak/Bashir slash that they stopped showing scenes of the two characters together.
As a aside -- Rowling does seem to have this thing for tragic unrequited love, doesn't she? At least for her adult characters.
Interesting that Rita Skeeter seems to have missed that tidbit. Then again for some reason the wizarding community has always struck me as being somewhat sexually conservative, so I suppose it might not be the sort of thing you spread around if you want to keep your job at wizarding boarding school.
As far as Lupin... ah, I don't know. While I tend to agree that Lupin/Sirus is plausible (I don't know if I see it as practically canon) I wonder if the analogy between being a werewolf and being gay and/or HIV positive isn't more artistically satisfying as an analogy.

Ahh, Bon, I love you, and I agree completely. So cannon.bonecrivain wrote:Hm.

As far as the actual article goes... well, when Ollie first told me about it, I ROFL'd a bit. (Seriously, I typed it about 6 times in our chat). Not that I think it's bad, it just seems so completely random XD But interesting.
And yes, I'm 100% certain all that HP slash existed already, WR ^_~ I'm pretty sure there's not a single character in HP that hasn't been slashed with every other character by now...

Hell, with the Time Turner and/or Polyjuice Potion, you can even be slashed with yourself.Jessibean wrote:bonecrivain wrote:Hm.

I hope no scary slasher freaks come over here and see this topic. I now fear HarryxHarry from 5 minutes ago slash.

I once saw ... if I recall correctly, Harry/Harry/Harry/Neville/Harry!Neville. There may have been a couple more Harrys in there. There was polyjuice involved. And madness, I presume. I didn't read it. Really!Jessibean wrote:And yes, I'm 100% certain all that HP slash existed already, WR ^_~ I'm pretty sure there's not a single character in HP that hasn't been slashed with every other character by now...
Edit: Here's something that fucking infuriates me. I emailed this link to some friends of mine (one of whom wrote back 'I have never been happier about anything' -- apparently this has eclipsed the day Rupert Grint reached age of majority as the best day of his life) and Eudora gave the email three peppers for bad language. I swear all the time, but in that email, I didn't -- the only thing it could possibly be flagging is the word 'gay'.

Mr. Black, I didn't think it was possible for me to love you any more than I already do, but once again, you have proven me wrong, thank you.Twofold Black wrote:Jessibean wrote:Ahh, Bon, I love you, and I agree completely. So cannon.
And gay -is- a bad word. Geez, did you miss the memo?

I literally squeed out loud when I was passed the news. It does not really surprise me in the slightest, but I do think it is brave of JK to stand up and say that one of the most beloved characters in one of the most read series of all time is a 'mo, knowing the backlash that could be (and probably will be) brought against the series because of this. Hats off to you, JK.
And yes, there is some major slash with nearly every fandom in the HPverse, although my absolute favorite since book seven is AS/S (Albus Severus/Scorpius).
You all know you want to ship ASS.
ETA: God, Wikipedia works fast. Dumbledore is already in the fictional gay men catagory at wiki, and he is flitting in and out of other GLBTQ themed catagories =D.

No spoony bard could spin a sweeter tale.

By the way, is it bad that when I read this one of my first thoughts was that it was too bad Ian Mckellen didn't play Dumbledore after all?

It's not bad, and as you may know I'll take Ian McKellan any way I can get him, but I kind of like the way it worked out. It wouldn't have flown under the radar for so long if Dumbledore had been played by a gay man.
On the other hand, I can just imagine Sir Ian's delight. Hmm.
In other news....

I can put that seemingly unattainable goal back on my list, then. The Daily Mail wrote:A spokesman for gay rights group Stonewall said: "It's great that JK has said this. It shows that there's no limit to what gay and lesbian people can do, even being a wizard headmaster."

Wow. Dumbledore's gay? Put that on my "things I never imagined" list. It does make sense. And I just burst out realizing I scoff at the fact that people crowd around gossiping about Britney Spears or OJ Simpson or whoever the "celebrity with new information" is of the day, and yet hear I sit typing a message about the sexuality of a fictional wizard. My life is pathetic.
