Image Hosts That Like PNGs?

Post by Silverevilchao »

I'm having a bit of an issue with a particular image. I've been working on several Metroid-themed Subeta profiles with an extremely thin backround - much like my current Subeta profile now, just bigger and wider. However, every single bloody time I upload this particular image -

- it's converted into a JPG. Sure, I like my JPGs, but when the image that it supports is a PNG, I have issues with the color. It doesn't match the image that goes on top of it, and, even worse, it's more than one shade of that black at once, making it impossible for me to change the color on the image that goes on top. Being the crazy perfectionist I am when it comes to images and HTML, I can't accept this. I've gone to other hosting sites, like Tinypic, but they also automatically make it a JPG and ruin the color.

Here's what it looks like:

Are there any image-hosting sites that would keep the previously mentioned image a PNG? Pleeeease? xD;;

Photobucket will accept .png images- but only if they're within the size limit of 1MB for free accounts (it's bigger if you pay). If the image is over 1MB, which yours is, it gets converted to .jpg which is smaller.

I'd expect other image hosts to have similar rules about maximum filesizes for non-paying customers. Also bear in mind that a big image will use lots of bandwidth, which is also usually limited.

You could look at the sites listed here and also at the Wikipedia category for image hosts here.

Or, you could try to make the image smaller- it's 1.2MB now as a .png which isn't that much over the 1MB limit.
