Really, it is nice to know that some people will always be the lovable nuts I've grown accustomed to, even if I move hundreds of miles away. I really don't know how I'm going to plan a semester of teaching in two weeks. Honestly, I know I won't. I'm sure the first semester will be planned a day or two at a time, but it's only four preps, so I'll survive.
Pfft. Planning. A teacher once turned up to our A-Level History lesson (equivalent of AP, I suppose) and proudly proclaimed that because the government's inspectors were in the school, he'd actually done a lesson plan for once. It was scribbled on the back of a used envelope, mind, but he was still pretty chuffed with his achievement.

He was one of the greatest teachers I ever had.

I hope all goes well Xelio, I think Alicorn knows how you feel. She moved here to live with (and marry me) from central/southern USA and we are in Ontario Canada now. I can only imagine what it's like for her to be so far away from her parents and siblings!

Yeah, the internet has kept me from being lonely (aside from my husband and cat) out here on the other side of the USA. It's not so weird with the internet so widely used for communication and entertainment. And you can take all your cyberpets and internet friends with you just as they are without having to move them. ;-)

You might also find after the shock settles out from the move that 2-3 hours is a perfectly comfortable distance from family. It offers a real sense of independence and self-adventure, while still being able to go home for visits and familiar surroundings a few times a month if you want. One thing i've learned from all my moving around is that there's always something that you'll like about a place that the others don't offer. Moving sucks, but i'm sure you'll quickly settle right in. Best of luck with all of it!

The internet is a wonderful tool like that. I've lived away from my parents/family since I went to college - 3.5 hours away when i was at BGSU and 9.5 hours away now in Kansas, and we're about to move to the other side of the country. The internet lets me keep in touch with them easier - emails are a lot easier for me to do than phone calls! - and it's also allowed me to keep in touch with my friends I left behind in Bowling Green when I moved. Really, the internet is kind of a constant in our lives, and I appreciate that.

Also what Fjorab said! Living at Bowling Green was the PERFECT distance from my family when I was first starting out. It was close enough where I could go home for a long weekend but far enough away where I felt like an adult.

Oh yes, the internet is wonderful. I much rather e-mail then phone any day! Though sometimes it's easier to get the person to talk to you over phone then it does via e-mail. I need to get my family to live chat sometime or something.
If it wasn't for the net I think moving to Canada from Missouri would of been much harder. But it sometimes feels I am not really all that far from them. (Though I must admit, I haven't really e-mail them in awhile. Must do that. ^-^; )

Anywho, best of luck to you Xelio. :3

I posted a couple months ago that my grandpa was undergoing treatment for colon cancer. Well the cancer ended up exploding everywhere inside him, taking over most of his GI tract. He was really weak the past few week and he was finally able to pass away this afternoon. Thankfully for everyone involved once he started the "death rattle" breathing this morning, he didn't linger for long. He'd spent the last day in a deep sleep, the doctors had given him something to help him sleep and he just never woke up from it. I'm grateful for that really, at least he shouldn't have been in any pain.

My grandpa was basically my dad and it hurts so much that he is gone. I think everyone was at peace and though he didn't want to go, he was at peace with leaving things how they were.

back from the cottage

Oh Seerow...I am so incredibly sorry :c Not much I can do where I am of course, but if there is anything, anything at all I can do, please let me know. I lost my papa when I was 12, we both had the same disability (I didn't admit it to my family until i was in my 20s) so his loss was hard. My heart goes out to you and your family *hugs and love*

so....

life has been a little crazy for me lately. Emotionally I suppose, without much actually happening where I am. Here's a bit of an update:

My grandma, the one I don't get along with, is not doing well. Her Alzheimer s is getting worse, faster rather than slower. A little while back she brought my grandfather a bottle of water while he was golfing...by driving her car down the fairway. I don't understand why she is even allowed to drive at all truthfully. But the whole thing is pretty scary...*sighs* she had to have a test done the other day, and the specialist was such a jerk...I mean to the point where he was screaming at her and calling her stupid. My grandfather had to walk in and almost punched him. My grandfather is the least violent man I know, btw. The doc's receptionist urged my grandfather to report him. The whole thing made me rather stressed/angry. I'll leave it up to the rest of the family to deal with...

My little sister's lease came up on her car, and she wanted to buy this time instead of lease. So she had to have the white version of the car she wanted...turns out the only dealership that had one in Ontario was in Ottawa. That's a 4 hour drive from where she lives, and we live even further away (my dad went with her to pick it up) The sad part is, the fiance manager who was putting everything together seemed like well....a moron. My dad/sis kept sending him the info he needed and he kept saying he didn't get it. Finally my dad realized the moron's inbox was full on his e-mail so he wasn't receiving any info they sent. (he took a screenshot and e-mailed that to his boss lol) Anyway, my little sis has her new car now, which is great! I am surprised that with her temper everyone survived the whole thing...LOL

My aunt Shelia (not my real aunt, she's one of my parent's best friends and I have been calling her my aunt since I was a kid) called yesterday to tell us that she has to undergo surgery. She is not sure if she will be having a whole hysterectomy or not yet. The scary part is that she is 62 and has a bad heart (my mom called it a leaky heart valve) so we are all kinda worried...my family getting old is something I have yet to come to terms with.

I'm kinda anti-social lately, a little depressed and attempting to put my meditation/mindfulness into practice so I don't go off into the deep end. Sorry for the long post...blah.
