News posts on the front page: posters (contest open!)

Post by dandelions »

Discussion on content and whether or not we should have news at all goes here:
viewtopic.php?t=5330

If you'd like to be picked to update the front page with news, please come up with some reviews for the following pets:
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... e=16">Grey Lupe</a>
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... 16">Pepper Chia</a>
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... =16">White Poogle</a>
and then PM all three <i>at the same time</i> to me, dandelions. Don't PM Jazzy because I think my inbox there might be full. In a few weeks' time I'll close the entries, and people will be able to vote for which of the reviews is best. If you'd like to review pets other than those three, be my guest, but those three are the ones you have to do.

Since nobody else is going to say anything, I'm gunna go ahead and say that one of them should be me because I'm awesome.

I dunno how many, maybe 3-5? At least to begin with it should be a smallish number until it can be gauged how much people are likely to write or how entertaining they actually are.

However one of them should be me. Again, because I'm awesome. Just making sure you've got that.

Yeah, why aren't more people commenting here? I'd like the news posters to be well-established members who have been known to make me laugh. I actually support Cheese's self-nomination. Scythe makes me laugh, too, but he's more of a specialist (mutants!) and I dunno if he's around consistently; that puts a damper on things. Huggles would be good, too, but is it okay to nominate someone who's a mod?

I'd say no more than 3 at the start. Maybe even only 2. Can always add more if it's necessary, but it's harder to ask someone to shove off. ;P

I support Cheese and Huggles both - and possibly Madge, if she feels like she has time?

I also agree with the 2-3 person idea. Has anyone thought about perhaps doing what Sam did, IE: having a contest to see who gets the right? Pick maybe one pet that is generally considered good, and generally considered bad, and let people go at it? Then you could post their comments, and have voting. And ballots. And Cute "I Voted" stickers that you put on the side of your computer but it is slowly coming off and I need to figure out some way to keep it on.

good thinking, batman!

Do people want a public posting of entries and a public vote, or to PM entries to me and vote anonymously? The pets you'd be reviewing would be these three:
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... e=16">Grey Lupe</a>
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... 16">Pepper Chia</a>
<a href="http://petdb.petpetcentral.com/index.ph ... =16">White Poogle</a>
Don't post any reviews to this thread until that's decided.

I remember Sam held auditions. Or did I make that up?

Anon. voting would probably be fairest but I don't like it because that means I might not win.

I didn't know there was a pepper chia.

edit: also lessthanthree Ty.

I was going to suggest Huggles as well as myself but didn't want to only suggest one other person, so I didn't bother suggesting any.

Which one of those is supposed to be the generally popular one? o_O

And I'm all for anonymity. I think the best way would be to display the entries in a post using codenames, then have a PM vote about it. Depending on the number of applications, it might be worth having a non-vote too. Ie, "I wouldn't want..." etc. Like we did with mods one time.

Sam did hold one... he just never got around to actually doing anything after posting about it. It was right before, IIRC, the permi-poof.

I thought people liked the grey lupe, and were generally OK with the white poogle...in fact I quite like the chia too, as a novelty.

I would choose the public vote just so you can see what other people picked also. Are you just going to pick 3 pets or so every week or every month. And are the pets that you pick are they going to be random or based on something else?

I think the idea is that people comment on all new colours as they are released.

None of them- so people don't just say "this one's fantastic, enough said." It isn't too hard to review something like the Royal Kyriis; it's harder to review something like the Pepper Chia which people barely even remember.

Personally, I think having one like that would be very helpful as we don't want a reviewer who would say that when encountered with a really good pet ;0)

So basically you are picking 3 pets, one that is generally good, one that is generally bad,and one that is in between. And people are voting on what pet they like the best with extra reasons and things. If I am wrong please correct me.
