Starting in 2012, Neopets added in hidden snowflakes to the flash animations. Each day you can find a hidden snowflake in the animation scene and click on it (keep clicking if you are having issues). When you click on it, a popup will come up that says you have found the hidden snowflake of the day and give you a prize.
So for example, the 2nd's animation, if you click on the top of the tree (I'm not sure if it was the star or a gear that finally worked) near the beginning of the animation, you'll get a popup and what I'm guessing is a random item, I got a Tigerbuggle Ice Lolly, nothing special.

Today's animation was just.. just bizarre o3o I'm sure the advent calendar animations are handled by a different art team or something, the art in them always looks weird and off-model to me :/

If you play the snowflake hunt for today
(it's on the tree), it looks like you can also get a special no-trade item, a Holiday Snowball, that you can use to get a NC prize if you buy the Really Warm Holiday Mittens at the NC Mall. The prizes you can get are at the bottom of the SunnyNeo advent guide:

I found the snowflake really hard too click and resorted to clickclickclicking on the spot whilst I waited for the animation to reach the correct point.
Today's animation really made me laugh though, once I got it (I didn't notice the first time what had happened). Weird compression artefacts all over it though, or was that just my computer?

Yeah, it's a bit strange to give us an NC item when... you're not buying it from the NC Mall. Really don't understand why it couldn't have been a normal item. Oh well, they're quite pretty I guess!
And the immature side of me let out a laugh at the Yurble's excited gesturing, I'm ashamed to admit.

It's an NC item? :/ That's.. really weird.
Btw, hidden snowflake for today is on the Negg in the beginning of the animation, pretty easy to find.

Today's animation CRACKS ME UP. I am not tiring of it, and that takes...something...to achieve. And for how tricky it was for me to click the snowflake, it was nice that i didn't get sick of it.

Yeah, you can win a neocash wearable. I looked up the possible prizes on
TDN, and personally I'm not interested in most of them. You can melt snowballs until you get all of the prizes (and also are guaranteed not to get duplicates) but I think they are given out in a random order, so you might not get the item you want until your tenth snowball.
