Help me decide what to do with my pets... pretty please?

Post by Wingsrising »

So right now (my signature to the contrary) I have a Blue Eyrie, a Camouflage Aisha, a (grandfathered) Darigan Peophin, and a Blue Bori.

I'm happy with Autumn as a camouflage Aisha and I think my Blue Eyrie is destined to remain a Blue Eyrie forever. (It keeps it reasonable to lab her for stats and morph her back again, plus I find the fact that my most expensive pet (because of her stats) is plain blue is amusing.)

My debate is what to do with my Peophin and my Bori.

Before Neopets v2, I had planned to paint my Peophin Faerie. I loved the old Faerie Peophin, and I was crushed when I realized I couldn't get one anymore. On the other hand, I do like the new Peophin design generally.... and I've been toying with the idea of going ahead and making her Faerie anyway. For one thing, it would solve a "problem" that had always bugged me -- my Neohome is on dry land, so although she has a pool-bedroom she spends most of her time there. I don't like the thought of my Peophin dragging herself around like a sealion and frankly I've always found the idea that underwater Neopets float in the air like they were in water satisfying. If she had giant insect wings, that would explain how she gets around on land without some sort of mystical floating: she just overs like a giant insect.

I've also considered electric, since I think the new electric Peophin is very lovely.

On the other hand, I was so pleased when I zapped her Darigan way back when. The grandfathered Darigan Peophin only uses the best (circle) pose, and changing a grandfathered pet just seems like such a waste, besides being so... irrevocable.

But back on the first hand, the grandfathered Darigan peophin seems dark, cluttered, and hard to see to me in the tiny pet images we mostly see (although it looks nices on the full-size lookup pictures). Also, I thought I would get used to the fact that she's facing the "wrong" way -- but I haven't yet. Also, I've never really grown very attached to her in her Darigan form: it made her seem so aggressive. I'd like to give her a gentler personality and a gentler appearence would be a good way to make the break.

As far as the Bori goes, there are several colors I'd consider for him, inclusing Island and Starry. But, although I (again) don't like it as much as the old Faerie Bori, I was thinking Faerie would be a good color for him, too. I've identified two things I don't enjoy about the new Bori art: something about it seems unbalanced to me, and in the small-image view the head seems sort of rounded and tacked-on. The Faerie Bori solves both these problems: the wings balance the body out and the line of the wings coming up from the head makes it seem less tacked-on to me. But it does seems a little silly? ironic? to go out and get two faerie pets NOW when everyone agrees that it was one of the redraw colors hardest hit by the new system.

This also raises the question of what pet I'd move off my main if I wanted to transfer pets to it temporarily... assuming the pound ever works again, of course. If the pound allows us to harvest clothes I'd like to zap some pets on my sides and then transfer the clothes to my main, but that requires moving the pet. This arrangement would leave me without a basic-colored pet to move (since I'm not moving my battle pet no matter what). So I'd be stuck transferring a painted pet (probably my Aisha since camouflage would be the cheapest color I had) back and forth.

Lastly, how to pay for all this, if I do it? I have a Faerie PB stashed in my SDB and an unused Fountain Faerie quest, so it would be easy enough... but do you think I should go ahead and use the Faerie quest, or hold it in reserve in case something really wonderful comes along?

Argh. Any words of wisdom?

Personally, I'd keep your Darigan Peophin grandfathered until the pound comes up. If you still aren't attached to the look, you can transfer her off and then start zapping for clothes. I suggest doing this on your main account, because while it'll suck, if you keep with Peophins, they look pretty always, and there is much less stress about transferring. As well, if you are shipping off your Darigan Peophin so you can zap other Peos in her spot, you can easily paint her blue and make her much less appealing to any pound snipers.

I'd collect Halloween, Island, Desert, maybe Robot, and any others I'm forgetting. As Adi pointed out recently, Faerie peophins are hawt in a Halloween cape. And having dress up options makes using something as rare as an FFQ more appealing; If you don't like Faerie one day, you can make her more islandy the next. In your place, I'd consider using the FFQ on Pirate, actually, because Pirate brushes are twice the cost of Faerie, and provide pretty clothes.

As for your bori, Faerie is a much cheaper brush than it used to be. At 1.4 mil, it is actually quite reasonable when compared to pirate (3.5) or even royal (1.75). So if you later decide that Faerie isn't the perfect look (and I'll have to take your word that it clears up most of the bori's flaws), 1.4 mil will break the average bank account, but it isn't as terrible as the 2.4 mil tag at its peak.

Good luck picking your pets. Just remember that what you like is most important, no one else can choose for you.

Unsatisfying, I assume you mean. This is probably not useful to you, because it is so character-specific, but the Maraquan Eyrie I had planned before I left Neopets used a pair of mechanical hind legs to get around on land.
