I'm very surprised I'm the first to post. The pic of your son is gorgeous beyond words! The only thing I'd say about the hair is that it needs more detailed texture at the very top. It just doesn't look as 'uniform' like as an adult version of hair mainly because he's so young. Kids' hair is generally uneven like that. Also, I think the whites of his eyes (forgive me for incorrect terminology, it's like 7:30 AM) should be dulled down a little with maybe a light shade of grayish white. It's really the only aspect of the whole pic that looks like it needs tweaking, as it seems a bit 'cartoonish' as opposed to the other darker areas. But to answer your question I think the hair is okay since, uneven coloring is normal for kids with fair skin and lighter hair.

This is exactly what I'd hoped for, some constructive critisisms ^_~
I've been working on my art for about a week now and this advice helps as my biggest downfalls are hair and shading
