Suggestions?

Post by Jazzy »

I don't normally do this kind of thing - I normally know exactly what I'm going to draw before I start, but I have an urge at the moment to draw something and I'm not exactly what so I'm coming to you guys for ideas (you can all be my muse!).

These are the basic parts of it:
- it's going to be big, probably at least wallpaper sized, so it should have quite a bit of detail
- it's likely to be more realistic than cartoony
- it should preferably have one area of fairly strong colour, with the rest dull colours (for example, a bright pink pig flying over a grey town)
- it can include fantasy animals or sea creatures, but only "real" ones - ie, not Neopets or Subeta pets, but dragons, etc, are fine.

Fire away - if I like the sound of something, I'll attempt to draw it, so any ideas are welcome, however vague.

Hmmm...how about a green grasshopper climbing a stalk of wheat in the middle of a field?

Giant space nudibranch. You know you want to.

I think this comes to mind because, a while back, you posted a painting you had done of a spaceship, and it stuck with me, because I liked it. Spaceships aren't usually very colorful, but nudibranchs are, so the solution is obvious.

I'd like to see a pink pig astronaut flying through space with a jetpack.

How about a White Lilly with the Yellow/Orange Pollen stems inside still and a bright Green stem floating down a Greyish-Brown river bank, and theres reeds and muddy patches of grass along the sides and the water isn't particually clean but the Lily is like light in it. - Could either be at night or at day but at night the Lily would look more effective glowing sorta in the darkness.

I'm not a fan of flowers, I'll say that now, because the picture I've been planning to paint for months involves approximately a million of them and they take forever to do well...hence why I haven't yet.

I'd never heard of nudibranches before, but they look amazing. Not quite right for this, but I might be forced to draw some anyway. Of the ones so far, I like Huggles' idea the most, and it's made me wonder - can anyone think of another way to have a flying pig? I think I need three ideas, so if I stick with the traditional flying pig and a pig with a jetpack, I still need a third.

My audition for university involved a fly pig postcard, but I can't remember now how it was flying. Dang.

Hang-gliding perhaps? Some kind of fantastic steampunkish flying machine full of levers and patched canvas? An ordinary balloon tied round its stomach? Peeking over the side of a hot-air balloon? Maybe it should be a balloon-animal pig instead of a real pig.

No, I don't know why I have balloons on the mind.

I suppose a pig's anatomy doesn't lend itself to the traditional wings tied to arms method.

You could try Patamon style, with wings kind like that..maybe a bit lower down.

You could have it on a broom, maybe, or with a parachute. Actually, I like E's hot-air balloon idea a lot. Or have it being carried off by a giant eagle.

Tiny ridiculous feet-wings, like those that are often depicted on the shoes of Hermes?

Then I've done my job. I love those things; they are so improbably, extravagantly beautiful, and I love their ridiculousness as much as their beauty. They're like deep-sea orchids. You can't make this stuff up.

As for the pig, steampunk flying machines are always the best solution to anything. Barring that -- flying carpet.

Ooh, yes, steampunk! The only use of the word "punk" where I follow happily. I blame Miyazaki. It'd be great to see a pig in a hodgepodge steam machine, with cute little aviation goggles and all.

Maybe being shot out of a cannon? That's the first thing that popped into my head atleast. Or maybe have him wearing a cape and being like a super pig?
