Glade Pets!
Re: Glade Pets!
I have to unfortunately agree with Wings - the torrent just isn't doing it for me. I also think it's because of the flower-covered unserwater pets theme. Also, I don't like the bettas. If they looked more like a REAL betta, maybe I'd like it more, but they only vaguely look like a betta, which makes me sad, since bettas are my fav. fish. I wish the artist had made them look more realistic (with realistic coloring too!) instead of slapping a huge amount of over-flowing fins. Bettas don't look like that.
Anywho, I really like the Pherret! Although the pose is a little awkward, the colring and flowers are very nicely done, and I like the expression on it's face, and the big butterfly that it's looking at.

Re: Glade Pets!
Funny, coral is something I associate way more with Hydrus than with Glade, because pets like the recent Kanis and the Donadak had red coral as major specie features. So, I'm glad there is no coral.
I love the Torrent, I got one as soon as they were released. Pretty fishes!

Daww, but this is what I like. They're less a focal and realistic point, if they were more realistic, I really feel they'd distract from the Torrent. But, I like me some pretty fishies. If they looked more like a REAL betta, maybe I'd like it more
Re: Glade Pets!
Regarding the coral and other sea-stuff... I'm glad the Torrent didn't have it either, since I've always been under the impression it was sort of a freshwater fish (based off of a Koi or something, right?). Which is why I was happy to see bettas and waterlilies! :D I can overlook the grass and think it's algae (I think that's what it might be anyways), and the other flowers are tiny enough for me to not be bothered. I'm still trying to figure out what that yellow-y stuff on it's back is, though...
I am in agreement with Ty. The rear leg lifting - while it is an action pose - makes me think the Pherret is gonna pee on something. Which is unfortunate, since I love ferrets and am usually inclined to love Pherret colors. D:

I love the Torrent waaaaay too much. *_____* Normally Torrents are so... eh for me, but this one is just eye-catching, I love it.
I agree with what someone else said, the Pherret looks wonderful as well (that little face is so cute) but it's a shame it was released with the Torrent since the Torrent is so unique.

Re: Glade Pets!
The Pherret is cute, but it looks like it's about to tip over, which is a very odd thing to look at xD Also, I know it's probably the same colors used on all other glade pets, but the green on its stomach looks particularly bright.
I find it amusing we were all talking about how the mushrooms on the Wyllop were so huge to show its size... but the mushrooms here on the Pherret seem quite small in comparison. odd, because I'd think the Pherret was also a small pet - bigger than the wyllop, but definitely not huge. Of course, I don't know if that's a standard of Glade or just something a few artists have done xD
The Torrent is beautiful, and I looove the bettas. I also like how it has freshwater water lilies and the like, rather than corals, but I think corals could really work on a salt-water based creature, like I assume the Tutani is - of course, I could be wrong.

Re: Glade Pets!
I was also hoping for coral on the Torrent, to be honest, or at least more water vegetation. I agree that the flowers, while very well drawn, do throw me off a bit.
Found the large Glade Pherret, btw. I really like this pet and I think the pose is largely adorable, but I don't understand why the hind leg is raised. It's a little distracting to me. The expression is great, though. Great job, Alyssa.

Re: Glade Pets!
The Pherret's raised feet don't really make it look like it's walking, its weight is in the wrong place; they remind me of the happy dance my dog does when something is way exciting but he needs to stay put.
Thanks for finding the big version, Officer. I like it even more now.

Haha, I can see that now, Mr. Black. That's a lot better than peeing. Although sometimes that happy-dance does have a bit of pee associated with it... but usually just in puppies. ;D

Re: Glade Pets!
That Glade Pherret is seriously tempting me to get a Glade Potion >_>. So pretty!
The Torrent is.. alright, but I'm not much of a fish person anyway, so.. yeah . I think they did a good job with the underwater-earth thing, though.

Really?
Re: Glade Pets!
Yeah, really.
Luxe, I hate to tell you this, but I'm somewhat of a betta expert. I'm not trying to brag, or sound high and mighty, but I have owned and bred these fish for years - so I just know a lot about them (and am quite passionate about them too ). In 2006-2007 I owned 20 different bettas, ranging from plakats, halfmoons, doubletails, crowntails and veils - some even came to me all the way from Thailand! Even today I still own several of these beautiful fish.
Yes, Bettas can have large finniage, but the way they are drawn on the torrent does not make them look realistic. For example:
In both of these images, the ventrals of the fish (those two long 'arm-like fins' near their gills) are drawn to quite literally look like arms. They're too big, up to far on the body and too long. Look at any betta - including variants with huge finnage like the halmoons you posted, and you will find that the ventrals are generally small and stumpy and are located on the bottom of the body. The drawn bettas also look like their anal fin (the long one along the bottom of the fish) is drawn coming out of the side of the fish, also giving a weird look. The one pink 'betta' that was drawn also looks like it has two dorsal fins - adding to the strangeness.
Also, yes the colors are off. Even the picture of the turquoise butterfly halfmoon you posted is not the color shown on the drawn bettas. Their colors are almost electric/hugely saturated in color, whereas real bettas, although being colorful and showing some crazy color combos - are usaually more muted in those colors. Sure, that orange mustard gas above is orange and black - but it's not ELECTRIC orange. It's more of a muted pumpkin orange.
All in all, I'm just lamenting that I wish more realism was added. It doesn't take a huge amount of research to see what normal colors of bettas are, and how their anatomy works too. If the bettas had looked more like a real betta, I would have been sorely tempted to run out and get a torrent, but because of those three little drawn bettas, I'm put off. Just my two cents though. :/
On another side... My favourite betta ever - my little boy - passed around September of '07. He came to me from Thailand and he was a true fighter. He lived for about three years happily before going downhill and I miss him a bunch. http://butterfly-lily.deviantart.com/art/Kaida-67166740
Ps: aquabid: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/ ... bettashm&t has a tonne of beautiful show and breeder quality bettas to look at/buy!

Re: Glade Pets!
I realize that the colours aren't realistic, but I'm kind of surprised at that comment since I never got the impression that Arbor was aiming at realism in the first place. The bettas are supposed to represent the butterflies, and the butterflies haven't been following the colour schemes of real butterflies; nor have they been 100% true to the features of real butterflies. Some of them are realistic, sure, but most of the time, the colours used were chosen because they complement the flower colours and don't dither. The butterflies are stylized, and so are the bettas. (I love bettas too, by the way: I've owned quite a few in my life and I have relatives in Thailand who breed them.)
Anyway, I love fish, I love this torrent and I will have to get it. The flowers are lovely and appropriate for an aquatic pet. I'm actually glad there's no coral! I can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said, but yeah, I really love this. The pherret has the prettiest flowers and a fitting pose for a curious pet.

Re: Glade Pets!
I have to agree 100% with Sayle on it. The butterflies have rarely been made to look like -realistic- butterflies, or any real species of butterflies, so why pick on the fish so much? I think the important thing is people can look at the Torrent and go "Wow, it has bettas instead of butterflies, how clever!" I think nitpicking at that is a little silly - especially if you start getting into the shape/type/whatever of the fins. The idea came across pretty clearly, and I think that's the most important thing here.
I've had bettas for most of my life, too, but I still recognized these as bettas immediately, and it's still my favorite part of the pet :P And if the artists HAD drawn the bettas 100% realistically, well, that detail probably would have been lost when it was resized. Look at how many details can be lost on the flowers and what not when they're resized. Chances are the bettas would look rather odd.
Not to mention, the Torrent isn't exactly the essence of realism xD It's a giant cartoon koi-fantail-shubunkin-whatever fish, who knows? Having a lovely-yet-cartoony Torrent with these realistic bettas around it would have just been odd.

Re: Glade Pets!
I know I am totally necro-ing this subject, but I have had an enforced hiatus from Subeta for the last several months and I came back to lots and lots of new cool stuff. These pets however may just be the collest new thing ever!!! They are lush and beautiful and creative and...and...and I love them all! I knew Subeta so kicked other petsites butts on a regular basis. I knew there was a reason to stick it out with all the drama. These pets are that reason. Huge thank you to the artists responsible for these as they are so amazing.....now to plot which pets get changed.
