The Neocolours once-a-decade poll: Wocky - what is it?
The Neocolours once-a-decade poll: Wocky - what is it?
You asked for it*, so here it is...
What's the Wocky based on, if anything? What animal do you think of when you see it? The chance to answer this question and much, much more in our exciting new poll!
Post explanations if you like.
(* - well, Ty asked for it. Sort of. And I can't remember the last time I saw a poll on NC. So, um, yeah. I'm going to the pub.)

Like mentioned on the other thread, the Wocky always reminded me of a Maine Coon cat. Big and fluffy
I've never seen anything canine in the species and still don't even after looking at it further. To bring up a Subeta pet that was mentioned and somewhat related, I also don't see anything canine in the Celinox either.

Wanna donate towards my drink gallery, the Golden Goblet.

I feel like they are more feline than canine myself.
The TGC cards show it pretty well.
Although, I'm also tempted to say that the wocky is clearly based on the Jabberwocky. But that might just be me.

I've never seen them as foxes/canines.. they're definitely cats, to me x3 I also don't see the Celinox as anything but a feline.

Clearly feline to me. They're another Neopian cat species, like the Aisha.

From the previous topic:
There's such a wide variety of dog breeds that it's a simple matter to pick features from one or the other to get what you want in the end.
I don't think wockies are canine or feline; I think they have features from both, and are their own species (genus, family?) entirely.
Because there's totally no way a dog could ever have those features.Felid wrote:I must be missing something here...flat face, button nose, triangular upright ears, bushy tail, all present and correct...in what way are Wockies not feline?Scythemantis wrote:Wockies aren't feline.

Re: The Neocolours once-a-decade poll: Wocky - what is it?
I've always thought of them as more of a cat -- nothing about them makes me think of any dog breed, not even the more snub-nosed ones Ty mentioned. The trading cards thelonetiel posted, which show one sitting in a tree and one climbing on a roof, reinforce that (the purple wocky TCG shows one climbing a tree, too). The only thing that could possibly make me think fox is the item "wocky glove," which is clearly based on foxglove.

I say the combo of MOSTLY cat (very strong Persian/Maine Coon cross influence), maybe some dog (Pomeranian/Pekingese cross? and some love for the Elkhound, thanks Ty!), perhaps a little fox, perhaps some of something else fictional. So i picked the option second-to-last.
But in the end? It's a Wocky.

My family had a lab/elkhound cross, so I have fondness for the breed. ^_^ I like your summation of the wocky's potential family history, hehe. I agree.

My family used to raise Elkhounds. Although i wouldn't want one myself (too much fur and attitude), there's still that family bond. My folks don't have any right now. My sister's accumulation of different kinds of dogs over the last 15 years kept us from bringing in more Elkhounds. One was an equally furry and big-attitude Pomeranian.

Definitely never thought of it as anything but a cat.

Cat, but certainly not any Earth cat. If you write their features down on paper, you could get cat or dog or fox or wolverine, but seeing it makes me think nothing but cat. *shrug* They were never my favorite nor the most interesting pets, but random polls are both!

To me, it's pretty much the opposite; writing down their features, I can see why people jump to cat, but I see nothing but some weird mix of various things. Hehe.
