Petpets as battledome aides?

I was just "fighting" the lab ray scientist with jade, to get her gender back to normal, and Monty, my zapped Hydruplit, appeared in the left corner of the screen, "floating" over jade.

One of my options was to "Use Monty" and once I did, his image disappeared.

I have not been able to replicate this, and I would like to have some answers, but everywhere I look says that such an option was disabled a long time ago.

I wasn't imagining things, I swear O_o
