Sam's deadline...
Sam's deadline...
... was today.
Did anyone hear back from him? Do we know what we're doing? Are we going to buy a domain, stay on Kamil's host, something different?
I know we had a domain discussion a bit ago, IIRC, neo-colours and theneocolours had .coms and .nets free, I don't think actual neocolours.anything was available at a reasonable price.
So. Um. Yes. Discuss. *waves hands around vaguely*

Last night we pondered colourise, colourize (hybrid, hee) and neocolourise, but the first two aren't particularly available and I'm not comfortable with the latter without Sam's permission to use Neocolours in the name.
We also discussed thenc as a name. We can keep our identity, it's how everyone refers to it anyway (and other sites saying "Neocolours" would technically be correct...) but we're not stepping so much on Sam's toes.
I couldn't entirely work it out, but it looked like I could get 1 (or 2, I'm not sure) years of http://www.thenc.co.uk for less than £10. Which, when we come to a decision, I would seriously consider paying. I'm not going to guarantee anything right now. But I'm thinking about it.
We also decided that registering through the site he works (worked?) for might be an unsubtle wake-up call ;0)
Aaaaand we came up with a sekrit plan to put us back on the map, but that's sekrit right now... Sssssh.

I don't suppose we could just get nc.something? I'd be fine with thenc too but if the other's available I'd prefer that, unless for some reason having a two-letter url would be awkward.
I've mentioned before that I'd be willing to help pay a bit for hosting, and though we're getting that generously donated *bows to Kamil* the same goes for domain name registry. So, E, don't assume that you'd have to pay it yourself.

nc.com and nc.net are taken, nothing else will allow a two letter domain.oogabooga wrote:I don't suppose we could just get nc.something? I'd be fine with thenc too but if the other's available I'd prefer that, unless for some reason having a two-letter url would be awkward.

As for the money... it's an hour's wages. Right now, I can spare that money. For the minute amount you would be transferring, the fees would probably be more than the money. And you get into the tricky area with TNT and the fact that you can't make money off a fansite. So for peace of mind, I would be happy to pay that first year. But thanks for the offer.
(Still not guaranteeing that I will pay, because I want a clearer idea of what we're doing before I make that decision.)

E, thats very generous of you
Maybe Sam has completely lost all interest in Neopets, and Neocolours as a result. I'm not suggesting we do so, but I think it would be okay-ish to use 'neocolours' as part of the website name, becuase we basically are Neocolours. Meh, its hard to explain what i mean....
I also like 'thenc' as the name.

Thanks VanillaCoke for the Set.
I can't remember what was said in the email - we did make it relatively clear to him what was likely to happen if he did not respond, didn't we?
When I emailed him shortly after the site went down (probably about a week in) I was told that he was working to get the site up and running again but it required a lot of work to restore due to a disk crash. I got the impression that he was still quite keen to do it, but it would appear that was just some bull, because we still haven't seen even a placeholder or explanation page put up by him.
Regarding URLs, I'd be happy with something like 'thenc' because although not as obvious as 'neocolours' you'd still remember it once you'd seen it a few times (it works for PPT, whose URL is 'pinkpt.com', not immediately obvious). People are going to find us through search engines (hopefully), where the URL is relatively irrelevant.
