Today I became aware of the term "lolcat." I am probably the last person on this planet who hadn't heard about it yet but just in case there's still a couple of others like me, I wanted to post here. Just something I thought I would share. I've been watching the pictures here for an hour now and haven't laughed so hard for weeks

I prefer lolrats because the cats are overdone. I enjoy the rats, though my internal editor cringes horribly even while I laugh. I can only read a couple at a time before my brain tries to leap out through my ears.

I Can Has Cheezburger bears mentioning. It contains a lot of the same material, but a lot that's different also. The older ones tend to be better, but you find the occasional gem in the new material, such as this.

the comments on those cat things are mind numbingly awful.

And then of course there's the ultimate meme-fusion - lolsecretz. Some of them are hilarious, some of them are surprisingly heartbreaking.

I think I must be the only person on the planet that just doesn't 'get' these things (The grammar! The spelling! - I know it's intentional but it still makes my eyes hurt). I don't 'get' the Cadbury's advert with the gorilla and Phil Collins either, which most people seem to love. I feel defective.

I'm amused by the Cadbury ad, but yeah, I don't really understand the appeal of the lols. It's encouraging horrible grammar, and I twitch a little every time someone uses one of these phrases. With that said, I'm checking out the lolsecretz; keeping an open mind and all of that.

Mr. Black, your example of a gem is so fabulous. I might actually save it - the first lol anything to touch my hard drive! The bird and caption are brilliant. (My bird does the same thing.)

lolcats gets old, but I like lolrats for cute rat pictures. lolsecretz is also interesting, I actually went a few pages before my skull started feeling too small for my brain.

I used to hate hate HATE these on principle (because of the grammar/spelling issues) and then...just gave up because they were too cute. That Owl one is certainly one of the best ones I've ever seen. The rats are cute as well I hadn't seen them before. I wish they had a calendar of these as my best friend and boyfriend would love it forever as a present.

I find them amusing and head hurting at the same time. Reading through lolsecretz, there were some gems and an awful lot of dross (the scaaary world one with the kitten and thread was <3). In moderation and with just the good ones, they're kind of funny (so that means when someone finds a good one and shows it to me in a chat, usually) but the crap ones are trying too hard. Also, the good ones don't rely on poor spelling and grammar to be funny, IMO the better ones are the ones which have least errors.

When I try to read lots of them I end up thinking in lolcatz language for the next few minutes, and that's very painful.

Thanks a lot, I really loved the lolrats! Rats have such good body language so it's easy to make the macros :D

Haha, lolcats are one of my obsessions, I just can't get enough of them. Everytime I see one I like I save it to a folder on my computer. My screensaver is set to be a slideshow of them. They just make me laugh, they're so entertaining. Ryan and I use lolcat terms all the time now. xD

Unfortunately sometimes the best ones require a little bit of kitty-pidgin.

The ones worth reading are the ones which actually put a new spin on the catchphrases.

Also, for anyone who likes lolcats and has even a rudimentary concept of coding, I urge you to have a look at lolcode. (Wiki; 99 bottles of beer.)

Does anyone else remember the Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode where about every five minutes she said "Mitosis is..."?

I think my favourite lolsecret is probably this one.
