Now officially allowed to stay in the USA! :D
Now officially allowed to stay in the USA! :D
I haven't really mentioned this a ton on the board, but for the last year and a half I've been in the process of moving to the USA from Canada so that I could finally marry the wonderful guy I've been with for over a decade. I finally made it to California in September last year after 7 months of paperwork, waiting, a medical exam (which was a huge deal for me as a hypochondriac :( ) and an interview in Vancouver. We got married in October with a nice little ceremony at Lake Tahoe that had just us and a couple of other people. We had to file even more paperwork following our wedding, but after another, much shorter, wait and an interview in San Fran yesterday morning, I was approved for a green card! Now I can finally feel like I'm really at home (and it'll be nice to be able to do little things like get a library card, and bigger things like get a drivers licence, oh and a job too). It happened much faster than I was expecting as well. Hope you guys don't mind me sharing in my excitement here!

Yay! Congratulations!
My housemate in grad school married a man from Scotland (who was a friend of the original owner of this board, actually) and so I got to see the complicated process that was involved. Movies where a character married an American and were instantly issued a Green Card and ta-da! all problem solved irritated her.

Thanks. :D Yeah, it's definitely not a walk through the park (though fortunately it went smoothly for us, no bumps). I think it might have been a bit easier if we'd gotten married before I moved and applied for a different visa, but it's worked out well regardless (getting the greencard can take up to a year from filing paperwork, as opposed to approval in 2.5 months like in my case).

That's brilliant news Aqua. Immigration procedures are not for the feint-hearted, well done for getting through them. (And congrats on the wedding!)

Congratulations! I was just up in the San Fran area visiting family (and Bon!). So lovely. California overall is my favorite state, absolutely. I'm glad to live here. Good choice!

We ought to have a California meetup while i'm still living here (central coast area between San Fran and LA). There seem to be more NC'ers in California than in my home state of Tennessee.

Congrats Aqua, on weddings and paperwork both!

California does seem to be a pretty nice place. I grew up in Vancouver so there are some things here that remind me of it (including bad traffic, haha). A meetup might be fun. :D I'm kind of isolated right now (no local friends yet) so it'd be nice to talk to other people.

I'll be in California twice this summer actually! Once in June to go to San Francisco with Lindsey and our friend Tissa (Darling on Subeta!), and once in August to go to LA for Subeta user's Ariel's wedding - and to visit Ty! So maybe we should squeeze a meetup in here somewhere!
