Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
I'm only really disappointed by the grass one. I really, REALLY wanted it to be a bird did we really need ANOTHER grass dinosaur? Seriously? (to be fair, though, the design itself is alright)
I like the girl trainer, though it looks like she killed a Purugly to get those shorts D: I'm mostly intrigued by the fact that the player characters are noticeably older looking than in previous gens, though. I don't know if it really means anything but it's neat.

So I got bored one day and created tables using pokemon type combos. The basic idea was to show what combos existed (rather than count the amount of each combo):

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
I am unamused by these starters, just like I was for GenIV. I'll probably start with the grass one, because I don't mind looking at it, haha. The water one kind of scares me- and Ty, that's supposed to be a SHELL its holding? o_o I think it looks like it has a mushroom on its stomach xD
I rather like the way the guy trainer looks, since he almooost looks like Travis... except for the hat and brown hair :P I'd like the girl more if she was wearing pants, like Joey suggested. And by pants I do not mean the hotpants she apparently has on.
I'm still really, really disappointed that there's a lack of Pokemon following you around, at least as far as I can tell from everything we've seen. That is, by far, my favorite part of HGSS and I'll be sad to see it go already.

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
Well I have to say I'm not overly excited about the starters but I'm usually not. I don't get excited till I see their 3rd forms. I'm a bit bummed about fire being a pig. I'm not a fan of pigs so yeah. But I'll wait for to see the rest of the evolution stages before I rule it out. The water kind creeps me out. It looks like a clown...damn nose. Don't like clowns, they will eat me. o.o **coughs** It does make me curious to see the other stages though. The one I say I'm looking forward to is the grass. At first I was a bit bummed to see grass as another reptile like pokemon. But then I read about it being grass snake and this excites me. I can't wait to see this ones next stages. I think this will be my starter when the time comes!
As for the rest, wow! So different. I must say I'm excited about the new things they are doing. I really like that the sprites are more animated. That will make battling all the more fun for me. I also like that the main characters are older. I always thought it was funny how 12 year old's kept saving the world. XD I also mirror the wish for the girl to wear pants but I'm just happy it's not a dress/skirt. It'll be hard for me to choose which to go with this time, seeing as I like both. The only thing I don't like so far is that, like Jessi, not seeing pokemon following you. I hope that won't stay true. That would be so cruel of them! It's one of the best things in HG and SS. If they take that away after spoiling us with it, that would be just mean! XP

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
WATER: Maybe it will have a super ferocious final form. I guess water/ice, too.
FIRE: It really reminds me of grumpig so if it's not fire/ground I guess fire/psychic.
GRASS: If they went a quatzequatel route, it could be pretty cool (a grass/flying pokemon that was actually useful!). However, in it's 1st state it's a "snake" with arms, legs, and eye lids...?
Digimon anyone?

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
I think this gen is looking better than the fourth. I'm not sure why, but I'm actually a bit excited. The pig starter is adorable, the "grass snake" is so-so, and the otter is so derpy and dorky looking that I feel kinda sorry for it. The man-trainer is good though, for the first time since Gen 2 I actually like the way one of the trainers looks. *gasp*
Looking forward to seeing other Pokemon and evolutions of these guys before I pass any further judgment on them.

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
I think you're missing a few, Nogitsune. I didn't go through your entire list but at a glance of the Psychic section you're missing at least the Jynx line, the Slowpoke line, Lunatone, Solrock, The Baltoy line, the Meditite line, the Metagross line, the Bronzong line, Latios and Latias. There's actually some pretty interesting type pairing variation in the Psychic category.
(Edit: Oh, nevermind, I see. Those Pokemon are there, they just aren't in both type lists. I think a table of all the type combos must exist somewhere online, probably on Serebii or Veekun. That's probably the easier way to read that information.)
I like the 5th gen starters a lot. I usually pick my starter based on the look of its final evolution, not its basic form, so I don't really know which one I'll choose yet, but they're all promising. As a general guideline I rarely train grass types (weak to too many common types!) but that smarmy duck is tempting. I hope it gets snakier as it evolves, though.
If I pick the otter I might have to train a Clamperl, too, and put them right next to each other on my team roster. I like the idea of the poor Clamperl living in constant fear, when really the otter just wants to float down a river with the Clamperl on his tummy. And then eat it.

It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.
Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
Which evolutions for existing pokémon are people hoping to see come from this generation? Two that come to mind pretty instantly for me are Pinsir and Banette - I've always felt hard done by for the sake of Pinsir when Scizor came around, though I suppose Scyther always had the edge anyway, and similiarly for Banette with Dusknoir - Banette was definitely the one in need of an evolution more so, though I'm a bit worried at what they'd do with my favourite pokémon...

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
I'm a little confused. I have to go by the order in which the elements appear: Jinx is Ice/Psychic not Psychic/Ice, for instance. I can't list it as both; that would be the same as saying that all Normal/Flying types ought to be listed as Flying/Normal too. That'd really get confusing for pokemon like Rhyhorn (Ground/Rock) and Geodude (Rock/Ground).Ierosbats wrote:I think you're missing a few, Nogitsune. I'm sure there must be a better list (or a better way to make this list), but I think this will serve for most purposes here.
Personally I keep hoping they'll make one of every possible type combo. I think that Flying/--- could be very cool denizens of Distorted World. I'm always a bit disappointed that Giratina's types do not switch around when it switches formes (Dragon/Ghost in Altered Forme and Ghost/Dragon in Origin Forme). It would be cool if it did, and a nice tip to the reflection theme.

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
For all intents and purposes, is there really much of a difference between Ice/Psychic and Psychic/Ice? The main reflection of interesting type combos would be in battle, where whether a type is primary or secondary isn't important.

Re: Pokemon Generation V Thread/Discussion
There's no difference between the two, Type1/Type2 vs Type2/Type1. It's just aesthetics. Look up rhyhorn and geodude: they take the same amount of damage from the same moves (i.e., both take 1/4 damage from poison, both take 4x damage from grass and water, etc.).
A bigger problem is trying to track down jynx and not finding it under psychic. That leads to confusion!

Anyway, the types now have both under all areas. I'll add gen 5 info to this once it's officially and fully confirmed.
